Mother's Day is going to be tricky this year since many of us can't go out to go shopping for Mom. Let's share an idea or two here of something we can do for Mom to celebrate her (or any other special someone like Grandma!) this Sunday. I'm going to to send my mom an Amazon e-gift card because she LOVES to read on her Kindle and that is what she has been doing so much of since she can't go out much these days. She will be able to download a bunch of new books to read.

Throughout history, there have been few national days of prayer. In fact, there were only a few noteworthy ones between the 1700s – 1900s. The National Day of Prayer that we know today was founded in 1952, and it was co-founded effort between the United States Congress and President Harry S. Truman. The holiday was signed into law by President Truman, and every president since has signed a proclamation that encourages Americans to pray on and celebrate this day. The national holiday has always been the first Thursday of May every year since it was founded in 1952. It stands as a day that continues the decision-making of the country’s founding fathers, which used the morals from biblical lessons in difficult situations. Basically, using God’s guidance to make important decisions in the country and for yourself. Just like Thanksgiving and Christmas, the National Day of Prayer has become recognized by Americans nation-wide, and it is even recognized and celebrated in all Hallmark calendars. Type the following sentence by filling in the blanks...TODAY I WILL PRAY FOR ___ BECAUSE ___.
Today is National Nurses Day! Their jobs have been extremely difficult these last few months. Would you ever consider working in the medical field? Why or why not?
Cinco de Mayo (the fifth of May) is also called the Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla. It is a holiday celebrated in parts of Mexico and the United States in honor of a military victory in 1862 over the French forces of Napoleon III. Here in the United States, it is often a fun day to celebrate. I have to work tonight so my family and I won't eat dinner together. Instead, we celebrated last night and had tons of Mexican food! Have you ever celebrated this holiday? If not, would you like to?
I was so happy to "see" so many of you at our first Movie Night on Saturday! I had a nice time :) and you were the best and politest guests ever! I was so proud of you! If you were able to join us, what was your favorite part of the night? If you weren't able to join us this time, do you think you might join next time?
Tomorrow will be our first quarantine Movie Night! I am not 100% certain what movie we are watching yet, but I will let you know by tonight. Also, I will be sending your parents a virtual permission slip by email. They will have to email me back to say it's okay. Make sure that you check your own email too! For today's blog response, just let me know if you think you will be joining me for movie night by responding YES, NO, or MAYBE.
Yesterday I made homemade bread and my whole house smelled sooooooo good! There is just something about the smell of fresh bread baking. My whole family finished the entire loaf very quickly and I will have to make another one later today. What is the one food that when you smell it cooking, you simpy can't resist the temptation?
What does it mean to you to have good manners? Who is the person (or who are the people) in your life who have taught you manners?
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, how good are you in the art department? Be specific and explain why you gave yourself this rating.
One of the things I miss while being in quarantine is going to the movies. I have done Family Movie Night at home with my family a few times already, and the Eighth Grade and I had a movie night last Friday. Would you be interested if I hosted a movie night with you one day soon using Zoom?
I know today is Friday. It says so on the calendar. However, being in quarantine sometimes makes it feel like all of the days just run into one another. I was wondering if you feel the same way too. Do you still feel just as happy about Fridays as you did when we were in "regular" school?
Would you rather do all of your distance learning on your own, or would you rather have some Zoom classes now and then for some social interaction? Briefly explain your answer.
Are you a chocolate chip kind of person, an Oreo person, or a "Nah, I'll pass" kind of person when it comes to cookies? Why? I'm an Oreo person because most of the flavors are vegan so they're okay for me to eat.
The week is still young. It's only Tuesday! List one specific school goal for this week that you are setting for yourself. Make sure it is something that is a possibility and something that you can actually measure the success of by the end of this week.
Okay, I would also still like to be on vacation, but alas, here we are once again! Reflecting back on the week and a half that we had off, (other than not having to do schoolwork) what was the best thing that you experienced during the break? It doesn't have to be anything huge, just something that when you think about it, it makes you smile. I'll share mine. I watched a few Netflix shows with some of my friends using the Rave app and we had a great time!
Two questions for you today...On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, how interesting was yesterday's "class"? On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, how successful was your attempt yesterday? Explain in one or two sentences.
Sometimes we need to be reminded that we are not alone even though we feel so alone, "trapped" in our houses. For today's response, just type the following sentence. You can’t copy and paste it. Use capitals like the example in parentheses. (ex. EVERY other WORD capital LIKE this) The sentence I want you to read to yourself and type is, ”I woke up today because God has a purpose for me. I am loved.”
Don't give me a sentence for this one. A one word answer is fine. What is your current mood? (Keep in mind that tired and hungry are not emotions!) I'll start. I am currently feeling OVERWHELMED.
Now that Crazy Hat Week has come to an end, which one of Mrs. Buck's hats was your favorite, and why?
Today is BOTH National Burrito Day AND National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. If you could only celebrate one of those days, which one would you choose to celebrate? I would choose Peanut Butter and Jelly day because even though I really like burritos, I absolutely LOOOOOVVVVEEE peanut butter and jelly. Plus, you can eat PB&J anywhere because you don't have to heat it up like you would have to do with a burrito.
You've just invented a new cereal. What is the name of it and what does it taste like?
What is your favorite dessert? When was the last time you had it?
There are twenty-four hours in each day. We spend about eight of those hours sleeping. That leaves sixteen hours. On an average, approximately how much time each day would you say you spend talking to family members? It can be parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunts or uncles. It can be in person or over the phone. Do you wish you spent more or less time with your family? Why?
Your blog post today will only be one word. That's right, you read it correctly...Just one single, solitary word. I want you to think of a word that when you hear it, it makes you giggle because of the sound of it. (No inappropriate words, please! We're still in school.) My word is SQUID.
Write a four (4) line poem following an ABAB rhyme scheme. (If you don't know what that means, look it up!) Your poem must include four (4) pronouns that you write in all CAPS so they stand out.
