Unfortunately, being rejected is a part of life. Some of us will be rejected from the high school we wanted to attend in the fall, some of us may be rejected by the person we like but who doesn't return the affection, and still others may be rejected by a group that they wanted to join. It's okay. While it might hurt at the time of rejection (and you are certainly allowed to feel pain, sadness, or maybe even anger) it doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with you! It doesn't mean that you are a bad person or that you are not good enough. It just means that you are not what that particular group or person was not looking for at the moment! That's all! You will find your place. Don't worry. Your BLOG RESPONSE today is as follows: In 6-9 complete sentences, tell about a time that you were rejected. Who rejected you? How did you feel? How did you deal with the feeling of rejection?

Our school has been chosen to participate in a nationwide survey this week. Only the Eighth Grade class qualifies because of some of the topics that will be covered in the survey. It will take place during classtime on Wednesday of this week. In the survey, you will be asked to give your honest opinions about various topics. All of your answers will be completely anonymous. Personally, I have participated in many surveys during my life. I don't mind sharing my thoughts and opinions if someone is asking for them and needs them for research. For today's Blog Response, please answer the following: 1. Have you ever participated in any type of a survey before? Briefly explain if you have. 2. Are you looking forward to participating in this week's survey? Briefly explain why or why not. (PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR YEARBOOK INFORMATION IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY!!!)
April is National Poetry Month. Poet W.H. Auden was once quoted as saying, "Poetry might be defined as the clear expression of mixed feelings." Author and poet Edgar Allan Poe once said, "Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words." Samuel Taylor Coleridge, also a poet, said, "I wish our clever young poets would remember my homely definitions of prose and poetry, that is prose; words in their best order, - poetry, the best words in the best order." Now that we are coming to an end of our poetry unit (don't forget your video presentation is due in Google Classroom by Monday morning at 8:00am) I would like to know how YOU feel about reading poetry. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 representing not at all and 5 representing a great amount, how do you feel about reading poetry? Explain/Defend your answer.
(*Please note* Before you write your answer, be sure that you are about to write properly. Use correct spelling, capitalization, grammar, and punctuation.) For some students, Report Card Day is a dreaded time for a variety of different reasons. For others, it is a day that is eagerly anticipated and celebrated. Which way was it for you this time around? Why? Give reasons.
In Social Studies class, we have been learning about the CIVIL SERVICE. People who are civil servants are people who are employed in the public sector by a government deprtment or agency. They are hired on professional MERIT and are not appointed or elected to their position. Your homework the other night was to ask your parents if they, or any other close family members, hold or have ever held a civil service job. If so, what is/was the job? Explain. Look up the different types of civil service jobs that we have here in New York City. Are there any jobs that you think you might be interested in in the future? Why or why not?
The title of today's blog post is a very famous quote. It means that with just one photo, you can actually "say" so many things. I have two great examples of this. One is a picture that my parents have hanging in their house. It is of my two children when they were very young. My son is apparently explaining something in great detail to his little sister, and she is looking up at him, wide-eyed and listening very intently to whatever it was he was telling her. That momment that was captured shows the bond between two siblings. It shows trust. He cares for her. She is relying on her big brother to teacher her new things. And all of this can be reflected in this one picture! There is another picture that was made famous around the word right after the Twin Towers were destroyed by terrorists in New York on 9/11. Firefighters were sifting through the rubble looking for survivors and there was a flag. Amidst all of the twisted piles of steel and broken glass, three firefighters raised an American flag. In that one simple picture, they said so many things without any words. They "said"....You can't stop us. We will rebuild. We will rise again. Your post today is to explain a picture you have seen, either personal or famous, and explain how it expresses the saying A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words.
I love looking back at my Eighth Grade yearbook! I am actually still friends with a few peple from the "old neighborhood" back in the Bronx where I grew up, and I love seeing pictures of my friends and me from when we were kids. Are you looking forward to contributing to your yearbook this year? Do you have many pictures to submit? Why or why not? What are some other things that you are looking forward to towards the end of Eighth Grade? What are some things that you know you will miss doing in Eighth Grade due to Covid Restrictions? *Please be sure to answer all parts of this Blog. Begin with a topic sentence, use supporting details, write mature sentences, and use proper grammar and sentence structure.
It's time to share something about yourself! Many of you have been together for years. Some of you have been BFFs since the beginning of time and, as a class, you seem to know each other very well. After all, you are together almost every day for ten months out of the year. You probably know what kind of food your classmates like, what type of music they prefer, and what leisure activities they do in their free time. Here's the opportunity to share something new! You don't need to write a paragraph...just a complete sentence or two. Share one thing about yourself that you don't think that anyone (or at least most of the class) knows about you. I'll go first. I am a really great cook and baker and can make custom cakes for birthdays like cakes in the shapes of hamburgers, and circus tents, and xBoxes. Your turn!
The "H" in R.I.C.H. stands for Helpfulness. During the holiday season, we see many ways that people lend helping hands to others as people tend to feel more generous during this time of the year. With everything that is going on around us right now (Mrs. Reiman is sick, we have to work from home, our parents' jobs may have changed, we might not have seen certain family members in months...) what are some ways that you can personally show your helpfulness? In a well written PARAGRAPH that has a great TOPIC SENTENCE and organized, planned, thought-out SUPPORTING DETAILS, explain what you do or what you can possibly start doing to make a difference in the lives of others by helping. Remember, this post is due by 10:00am this morning for attendance.
The definition of PRIDE is "a feeling of satisfaction or plesure derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those whith whom one is closely associated , or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired." After completing the first trimester, filling out your report cards, and meeting with many of your parents yesterday, I must say that I am filled with pride. This trimester has truly been a team effort among teachers, administration, parents, and you the students. I am proud to be a part of such a successful group! Fifty-five percent of the class earned a place on the Honor Roll. Many other students came soooo close. Other students might not have had the grades to get on the Honor Roll, but they worked their very hardest, and I am just as proud of them as well. Your task today is to write a well written paragraph (6-9 sentences with a strong topic sentence) about a group of which you have been proud to have been a part. It can be this class, a sports team, a dance class, or any other group to which you belong. You must post by 9:00am so that I may take attendance for the day.
