In Social Studies class, we have been learning about the CIVIL SERVICE. People who are civil servants are people who are employed in the public sector by a government deprtment or agency. They are hired on professional MERIT and are not appointed or elected to their position. Your homework the other night was to ask your parents if they, or any other close family members, hold or have ever held a civil service job. If so, what is/was the job? Explain. Look up the different types of civil service jobs that we have here in New York City. Are there any jobs that you think you might be interested in in the future? Why or why not?
The title of today's blog post is a very famous quote. It means that with just one photo, you can actually "say" so many things. I have two great examples of this. One is a picture that my parents have hanging in their house. It is of my two children when they were very young. My son is apparently explaining something in great detail to his little sister, and she is looking up at him, wide-eyed and listening very intently to whatever it was he was telling her. That momment that was captured shows the bond between two siblings. It shows trust. He cares for her. She is relying on her big brother to teacher her new things. And all of this can be reflected in this one picture! There is another picture that was made famous around the word right after the Twin Towers were destroyed by terrorists in New York on 9/11. Firefighters were sifting through the rubble looking for survivors and there was a flag. Amidst all of the twisted piles of steel and broken glass, three firefighters raised an American flag. In that one simple picture, they said so many things without any words. They "said"....You can't stop us. We will rebuild. We will rise again. Your post today is to explain a picture you have seen, either personal or famous, and explain how it expresses the saying A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words.
