As the Christmas holiday quickly approaches, we are bombarded with commercials of things to "buy" for one another as gifts. Right now, take a few moments to think of ways that you can give to others without spending any money. Write ONE COMPLETE paragraph explaining what you can do. (Use your heart...not your wallet!!!) Remember to post by 10:00am for attendance.

Yesterday, during guidance, you spoke about ethics. I often bring up the word INTEGRITY to you. As a reminder, the word integrity is a noun. It means: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. Lately, I have not been seeing as much "integrity" as I have grown accustomed to in my Eighth Grade class. I have noticed that some people have not been so "honest" when taking quizzes and/or tests. It saddens me to think not only that you would cheat yourself by not studying and coasting through just to get a high grade, but that you also think that I would be unaware that you are doing so. I don't expect anyone to confess here. You don't have to answer to me or to your classmates. What you do with your moral character is between you and God. What I am asking you to do here in AT LEAST TWO COMPLETE SENTENCES is simply sound off. Write at least two sentences voicing your thoughts about the topic of this post. (Ex. How does it make you feel? Will it make you change your ways?) Go...
I feel like we are constantly surrounded by unhappy thoughts lately. Yesterday, those of us who are "in person learners" were told that we would be shutdown for at least a week as we return to remote learning. Ugh! We are not happy campers here! We could focus on the negatives, or....we could share something positive! What I would like you to do today is share something positive that has happened to you recently. Be specific. Explain your "posiive experience" in detail. Please, as always, have a topic sentence and supporting details. Your answer should be MORE THAN JUST ONE SENTENCE! I will start. When I came into the school building on Tuesday, I had had a not-so-great weekend. Mrs. Williams knew about it and had apparently left a little gift for me in my classroom. When I opened up the giftbag she had left for me as a surprise, it was a Funko Pop Television figure of my favorite character from a TV show that I love. It made me smile from ear to ear! Mrs. Williams is a true friend to me because she always finds a way to make me happy even when I am going through something troubling. She makes me happy!
Well, I'm feeling angry, disappointed, frustrated, and maybe even a bit helpless at this very moment. Yesterday you had class with Mrs. Sposato and you discussed your feelings. I know that the school closing again (even though we have been doing all of the right things) doesn't seem fair. What I want you to do BEFORE you respond to this post...is look up articles about Governor Cuomo shutting down Catholic schools located in hot spots in Brooklyn and Queens. Read about what he is saying. Then look up articles that show the Catholic Church and the Catholic schools' (Catholic Diocese) responses. After reading a few articles, explain your opinion. Do you agree with Cuomo for closing our schools even though we have done nothing wrong, or do you agree with the Catholic Diocese for fighting for our rights to remain open? YOUR ANSWER SHOULD BE A MINIMUM OF ONE PARAGRAPH (6-9 sentences).
Every week there will be something to write about on Fridays. I would like to hear some suggestions for topics from you! List three (3) topics here that we could potentially use in the future for our Friday Blogs. Each one of your suggestions should be in sentence form. (Don't forget to go to your ELA Google Classroom later this morning to take your Spelling test!) Have a great weekend!
It has now been one full week since I last asked you to evaluate how this hybrid model of teaching/learning has been going here at St. Nick's. I would like you to take a moment to reflect on this week and compare it to the week before. Using the same scale, one being the lowest and ten being the highest, how would you rate the success of this week's hybrid teaching/learning? Please use a clear topic sentence first. Then, use specific examples to support/defend your opinion. Your entire post should be at least five sentences. Before you submit your answer, be sure to PROOFREAD and check for any errors in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammar. Also, remember to check your email (and have your parents check theirs) later today for next week's schedule and more detailed information regarding the new four day in-person schedule that begins Monday. Have a great weekend!
So, we have survived our first full week of this "hybrid" way of learning. On a scale of one to ten, with one being the least and ten being the most, how successful do you think the hybrid model of learning has been so far? Be sure to explain why you feel this way. In case you don't remember what "hybrid" means, it is a mixture or blending of two things. We have blended live/in person learning with virtual/Zoom learning.
